Sweet Corn Chaat is a popular Indian snack crafted from tender sweet corn kernels tossed with a medley of onions, tomatoes, and aromatic spices.
In India, chaat is of any kind, be it pani puri, bhel puri, sev puri are very popular across all age groups. While Sweet Corn Chaat may have joined the chaat scene relatively recently, its popularity has skyrocketed in the past decade or two. And let me tell you, it is for all the right reasons!
The reason behind increased popularity is the ease with which it can be made as well as the unique sweetness of sweet corn .This sweetness blends perfectly with the tanginess of the chutneys and tomatoes. And if you add sev and onions to it, the crunch they provide is like cherry on the top. Also lets not forget the contribution of “dhaniya”(coriander/cilantro). It brings a unique earthy taste of herbs to this dish making you drool even by the thought of this delicious sweet corn chaat.
I’ve always been a huge fan of chaat. When I was growing up, my sister and I would find any excuse to sneak out of the house and convince our mother to let us indulge in the chaat sold by roadside vendors. Most of our pocket money would end up being spent on these delicious snacks. Good times!
About the recipe:
Today, I am sharing my recipe of this common street food from India, Sweet Corn chaat. As I said, it is very easy to make, requires minimal ingredients and can be made in less that 10 minutes.
An important note before we start with the recipe: For sweet corn, you can either buy sweet corn cobs from the market and then peel the kernels off the cobs. You’ll need to boil or steam the corn cobs in salted water. Once the corn cobs are cooked, carefully remove the kernels from the cobs. This process may take a bit of time. However, if you are in a rush, frozen sweet corn would also do the trick. Both these types taste equally good in this Chaat recipe.
Okay, now that we know, let get into it.
