Chikoo milkshake is a refreshing and healthy shake made with ripened sapota(chikoo), milk and sugar.

Chikoo is a tropical fruit found in India and the neighboring countries. It is brown in color and sweet to taste. They are rich in vitamins, particularly vitamin C, which is essential for immune function, skin health, and wound healing. They also contain significant amounts of vitamin A, which is important for vision and immune health. Chikoos are a good source of dietary fiber, which aids in digestion and helps maintain a healthy gut microbiome.

When I was a kid, we often drank chikoo milkshakes in the summer. Chikoo is a fruit that’s only around during summers. Sometimes we just ate the fruit itself, or we’d mix it into fruit salad. And every now and then, my Mom would whip up a chikoo shake.

For making this shake, it is mandatory that the chikoos are ripe and fresh. To see if the chikoo is ripe, gently press its outer skin with your fingers or thumb. If it’s soft to touch, it’s ripe. However, if it feels hard or stiff, it’s not ripe yet.

If you have bought unripened hard chikoos, do not worry you can ripen them easily at home. Follow these steps to ripen your chikoos.

  1. Wash chikoos thoroughly and dry them.
  2. Put them in a bowl and cover them with a black cloth or any cloth that would prevent light to pass through. Then place this bowl in a dark warm place.
  3. Check the chikoos daily for ripeness. Some of the chikoos might ripen earlier than other. To prevent wastage it is required that you check the chikoos daily.

It is preferable to serve this milkshake cold. I have used ice cubes to make this milkshake cold and refreshing. However, if you do not want it too cold, you can skip the ices cubes and just use cold milk instead.

I have also used vanilla essence to give a flavor but it is totally optional and you can totally skip it.
